Belize – Poor man’s Acapulco

My first day was what I hoped for – quiet and beautiful. With two weeks to this tiny Island of Ambergris Caye is 15 nautical miles north of Belize City.  The island is about 25 miles long and 1 mile wide! About 1/2 mile to the east of San Pedro in the Caribbean, is a […]

Last day from Belize a surprise

My last night I decided to splurge and have a fancy Belizean seafood meal.  I went to Anglers Seafood house.  I ordered their special and it was great.  I was alone in the restaurant until a gentleman walked in and sat next to me. I invited him to join me and he did. He turned […]

Last day in Belize

Thursday night, I just hung around our little Conch shell Inn. The B&B / hotel has just 12 units and is sandwiched between two bars and on the beach. The place is owned by someone in CA and run by Vivian, like more of a den mother. Very sweet and vivacious. She and her two […]

Cacophony of Belize and serenity

E The twelve mile long  Island of Ambergris Caye sits 20 miles offshore from Belize.  The island is protected by a barrier reef system, the meso American reef system  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mesoamerican_Barrier_Reef_System  this reef runs all along the 180 mile eastern border of Belize.  The protected reef is about 1/2 mile from our shore and provides tranquil […]

Big Night – Hermit crab races

As you can tell, maybe two weeks of paradise can get a bit  slow. Debbies youngest sister Ellen passed away after many years battling MS .  May she rest in peace. Nauti Crab bar. Run by a self professed “fat white guy with a microphone  from Ohio”. The blue humor and his crab race calling […]

Secret Beach and Overseas bar

Beautiful day at Secret Beach.  A bone rattling (rough on back and neck fusions).  Rental cart feels every small and speed bump.  After a 45 minute trip (3miles) you feel very shaken but stirred by the beautiful beach and crystal water. Open up this night photo  moon above! IMG_0752   Mike Nash song  SAYS IT […]

Slow day -a bit rainy

Spent the day reading by the beach, ducking the brief rain squalls Everything here is very quiet .  this is the first “off” season week (after Easter).  Streets are virtually empty at night.

6th day is Friday?

Finally decompressing enough to get more adventurous.  While I understand weather is great in Chicago, it is beautiful here 77-84*  sometimes windy, but enough to keep you comfortable.  I spent the day reading and in the sun  then went swimming and ended up at Palapa bar to great music, sing and dancing! everything […]

Snorkeling and photos

Another beautiful day in Belize ( yes I missed a day posting) .  Not as windy, but hotter. Normally the sun rises behind a marine layer, but clears out to a beautiful sunny day with a light breeze – 12 mph. I went on a half day snorkel with about 8 people on a boat […]
